Surprisingly, the public feud between Shakira and Gerard Pique is still going on. A few days ago, Shakira moved to America with her close family. Even after she moved out of Spain, Pique is still subject to constant criticism on social media. The Colombian’s singer latest taunt for the soccer veteran has gone viral. While that tweet crossed over a million likes, even Spotify decided to honor the singer in a unique way.

Indirectly, Spotify is now connected with Shakira and Pique. Months after signing a $308 million worth deal with FC Barcelona Pique’s former soccer club, the music streaming platform is now connected with Shakira too.
How and why did Spotify honor Shakira?
While the Colombian singer was moving out of Spain, Gerard Pique finally openly spoke about the diss track controversy. While he vented on Gerard Romero’s channel, the soccer veteran also ended up taunting his former partner and her loyal fans. He said, “I can set an example with the theme that I have spent last year, that well, my ex-partner is Latin American”, as transcribed by Actitud Fem and translated by Google Translate.
Orgullosa de ser Latinoamericana.

“You do not know what I have come to receive through social networks from people who are fans of her, but thousands of barbarities”. A few hours later, the Waka–Waka singer replied to Pique on Twitter. In Spanish, she wrote, “Proud to be Latin American” and also showcased different country’s flags from Latin America. This tweet also crossed a major milestone for the singer on Twitter.

Spotify saw this as an opportunity to honor the Grammy Award winner. The music streaming platform created an exclusive playlist for the singer and named it the same as her tweet. Her diss track with Bizarrap, TQG, Monotonia, and Te Felicito are some of the songs in the playlist. This special playlist already has over 45,000 likes on the platform.
Let’s also have a glance at Spotify’s deal with Pique’s former soccer team, FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona’s major sponsorship deal with Spotify
On March 15, 2022, FC Barcelona confirmed their official four-year deal with Spotify. Their contract began in the 2022-23 season. The music streaming platform became FC Barcelona’s main partner. As a result, they would occupy the main ‘chest area’ of the jersey for branding. As per the deal, the La Liga giants would have to also rename their stadium to ‘Spotify Camp Nou’.

Interestingly, this deal also allows Spotify to play with the branding in front of the jersey. We’ve seen big music stars like Drake and Rosalia perform at Nou Camp, thanks to this deal. Funnily, the fans wanted Shakira to perform instead of Rosalia before the El Clasico kick-off in March. While the deal is reportedly about $308 million, the club still needs to clear a major part of its payroll to accommodate new players.
