Well, the night could not have turned any worse for Lionel Messi. The Argentine superstar made his first appearance as a starter against Monterrey earlier tonight after missing a month of action due to a hamstring injury. However, the Argentine talisman’s return went down the drain, with Inter Miami conceding three goals early in the contest leaving no chance of a comeback!

Fans inside the stadium made sure to relay their thoughts to the visitors throughout the contest, with Monterrey fans chanting Cristiano Ronaldo‘s name to rile up the Miami skipper. Well, it seems like the club too has joined the fray with the Liga MX side trolling La Pulga through their X handle. Minutes after the final whistle, Monterrey’s English account put up a single word in a now-deleted tweet, enough to rile any Messi fan up. See it for yourself!

Monterrey was undoubtedly the better side through both legs. The Liga MX side did a great job in the first leg away from home bagging a 2-1 win, to gain the advantage heading into their home fixture. The team then did not drop the ball as they made most of their chances at Estadio BBVA picking up a 3-1 to secure their ticket to the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals. Meanwhile, Inter Miami following the defeat will have to return to the drawing board as they turn their attention to the MLS.

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami look to turn things around against Sporting KC

After a shambolic 5-2 defeat on aggregates, Tata Martino will have to find a way to rally his team ahead of the upcoming clash against Sporting KC. The Inter Miami boss has come under fire for his tactical prowess this season and a poor string of results could put his job at risk. Inter Miami is third in the league standings with 12 points from their 8 games, the team has played the most fixtures out of any team in the Eastern Conference and needs to up their ante in the coming weeks if they want to maintain their position at the top half of the table.

The likes of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi have done a decent job so far this season but the two need to put their gas to the feet, if the team wants to achieve any success this season. Inter Miami’s management also needs to carefully manage their player’s workloads with multiple players currently on the sidelines with injuries. It will be interesting to see if Lionel Messi and his teammates can help Inter Miami get their hands around the MLS title for the first time in the club’s history. After all, it’s the trophy that matters to the fans at the end of the day!
