Problems continue to mount for Inter Miami since yesterday’s 2-1 loss against Monterrey. The aftermath of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal Leg 2 clash saw the injured Lionel Messi and rival boss Fernando Ortiz square up against each other. Even as the dust begins to settle, reports indicate that Monterrey has taken further action by filing a complaint against the Herons.

The Liga MX team is pursuing sanctions against both the team and its players, including Messi, Luis Suarez, and Jordi Alba. As compiled by Aol and reported by Miami Herald writer Michelle Kaufman, the Mexican side is eager to resolve the issue before the second leg, which is scheduled to take place at their home stadium on April 10. Notably, the incident transpired after the rival coach candidly implied that referees would exhibit bias in favor of Inter Miami during Leg 1, citing the club’s significance to the image of the MLS.

He said, “Everything that surrounds Messi can lead to sporting and non-sporting decisions.” However, the unexpected happened as Miami went 10 men down and even lost the home fixture. This forced Messi, Suarez, Alba, and coach Tata Martino to first confront referee Walter Lopez regarding critical decisions that ultimately led to their defeat. Subsequently, the former Barcelona trio then had a fiery exchange with Ortiz and his assistant, Nico Sanchez.

Earlier, journalist Fernando Schwartz reported that Monterrey’s entourage had encouraged CONCACAF to take note of the altercations involving Messi and other Miami players. With the recent report, it looks like they have finally taken the call against the MLS side. Interestingly, when Ortiz was asked about his alleged argument with Messi, he had a diplomatic response.

Upon Monterrey’s return to their home soil, Fernando Ortiz was questioned about his altercation with Lionel Messi by journalist Higinio Robles. Remarkably, Ortiz appeared reluctant to divulge the specifics of the conversation he had with La Pulga. He replied, “What happened is going to stay there. I am not going to give a statement regarding that.” Additionally, Monterrey’s decision to press charges against Inter Miami contradicts Ortiz’s previous statement.

During the post-match press conference, Ortiz displayed no inclination to carry forward his feud with Messi. Neither did he mention filing a complaint against Miami. Instead, the rival boss had voiced admiration for the Argentine maestro, labeling him as the best player in the world. Subsequently, the Liga MX coach conveyed his team’s eagerness to face Messi at home should he recuperate and participate in the second leg on Wednesday.
