Ronaldo spoke highly of the Saudi Arabian League in Al Nassr’s Japan tour. He echoed his recent claims of Roshn Saudi League becoming the top five in the next five years. Moreover, when a reporter asked about the best league between MLS and SPL, the Portuguese superstar answered his obvious choice, SPL. 

CR7 further stated his move to Al Nassr opened the doors for European superstars to follow suit. His claims received flak from many fans, especially about European soccer’s quality. His assertions came amid a Saudi Arabian overhaul and spending spree. The outrageous spending from Roshn Saudi League clubs has garnered attention.

Since PIF, one of the world’s largest and Saudi-owned sovereign funds, has taken over four Saudi clubs, the overhaul commenced. It attracted criticism from former soccer superstars like Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville. Recently Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola warned the European clubs about the strides the Gulf nation is making.

The clip showcased Abdulmajeed Al-Sulaiheem taking a shot from a distance at the opponent’s goal while shooting waywardly as the ball landed in the crowd. The Twitter handle captioned it, “Best league in the world,” taking a dig at Ronaldo’s comments.

The soccer fans soon took over in the troll ride. One fan wrote, “Money doesn’t buy you everything.” Other fans also took a dig at the spending made by the Saudi clubs.
