Ryan Reynolds’ foray into the world of soccer in 2020 has been a success story. After his and Rob McElhenney’s takeover of Welsh club Wrexham AFC, the team is now enjoying the glory of being part of the English Football League once more. The team had an excellent campaign that saw them being crowned as the National League Champion 2022-23. Wrexham played 46 matches and amassed a staggering 111 points with 34 wins and 9 losses.

However, it hasn’t been without its road bumps. As Ryan Reynolds recently reflected, there is an unavoidable learning curve to joining any new venture, and mistakes can and will happen.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney recently sat down in a podcast to talk about Wrexham. Reynolds spoke to the podcast host about his learnings in show business and personal life. He also drew parallels to the mistakes made while managing a soccer club.

He said, “I could give you countless examples of where I’ve made mistakes in my personal life, in show business, and all those things, and I’m so grateful for all those mistakes because I was given an opportunity to learn from them and grow from them”.

Reynolds further added, “I mean, that’s, like, mistakes are just fertilizer. So I don’t know. I think about the club and any mistakes. Usually, I kind of disregard it pretty quickly because I’ve already used it and internalized it as a learning experience.” He ended this with a great message saying, “You got to be willing to suck at something before you can be really great at it”.

It is clear that Reynolds is approaching his new venture with the club with an optimistic outlook. He is viewing any missteps as opportunities to learn as opposed to roadblocks that must be overcome.

Wrexham lost nearly $3.7 million

In Wrexham’s recently released annual report, it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have had considerable losses after investing in the club. The report showed a $3.7 million loss for the year ending on June 30th.

Despite this, a different report from The Mirror stated that the club boasted $7.4 million in turnover. Additionally, the Hollywood duo invested approximately $12.4 million in restructuring. Although they endured such a loss, the pair remains confident about investing in their team going forward.
