Erling Haaland has struggled to hit his stride in domestic fixtures. However, on the national front, the striker remained unaffected by any setbacks and maintained his form for Norway. Haaland scored an emphatic brace against Cyprus, surpassing a 44-year-old record in international matches.

Although he has scored 8 goals in 12 appearances, Haaland is only a shadow of himself when compared to last season. The international break serves as a pivotal opportunity for the Norwegian sensation to bounce back. And it seems, the striker has seized that opportunity.

Norway kept their aspirations alive for the Euro 2024 qualification with a convincing 4-0 triumph over Cyprus. The forward played a crucial part, scoring two goals during the latter half of the match. Haaland scored his first in the 65 minute and seven minutes later, headed home the second. Following the game, he became the first European player after 40 years to net 27 goals in his initial 27 international fixtures. Previously, Gerd Muller of Germany reached this pinnacle in 1970.

Haaland is the second youngest star to reach such heights, with Lukas Podolski, also German, leading the pack. The Norwegian maestro’s record-breaking achievement must have elevated his confidence after a dip in performance in domestic fixtures. In the league, Erling Haaland failed to convert in key matches across different competitions, as City looks for a recluse.

The Norwegian starlet is yet to improve for Man City

Erling Halaand has scored only eight goals and provided two assists after twelve games in all competitions. The statistics do not currently align with the reputation he has established for himself with the Sky Blues. Manchester City appears to be facing challenges in generating scoring opportunities, following two consecutive defeats in the Premier League. In turn, it has highlighted Haaland’s current deployment, which lacks the ability to exert significant influence on these matches.

The striker has been far from threatening and his presence in the offensive third has largely been limited. This was most evident against Arsenal. Haaland was absent in the game with only a first-half header, which was thwarted by the rival goalkeeper. It was the Sky-Blue star’s third game without finding the back of the net. However, Haaland’s two goals against Cyprus must fuel optimism among fans for a turnaround in the upcoming Premier League games.
