There is a whole other subset of the sports fanbase that places bets. While many of us just watch the sport for fun, many fans like to raise that fun to a monetary level. Drake placed a $1 Million bet on Argentina winning the World Cup final. Well, Lionel Messi and his boys won the final, but Drake did not win the bet for some reason.
Why didn’t Drake win despite Lionel Messi lifting the World Cup?
After the World Cup final, screenshots of that bet have flooded social media. The Canadian superstar placed his bet in the 1×2 betting market. The rapper betted in favor of Argentina winning the World Cup final. However, the unfortunate part was that this betting platform does not account for extra time.

The Argentines did not win the game in the first 90 minutes of the match. Messi and his boys were leading right until the 80 minute. Everyone thought that the Argentines would cruise to the end with barely 10 minutes left on the clock.
However, French super striker, Kylian Mbappe had other plans. Mbappe two goals in the span of barely two minutes and turned the entire game around. What looked like a cakewalk for Messi now looked like the highest mountain to climb.
Argentina ended up winning the World Cup final on penalties, but Drake’s bet was not winnable anymore. The Canadian rapper would have won around $2.75 million if the Argentines had won that game in 90 minutes.
Is the ‘Drake Curse’ real?
Over the years, a phenomenon known as the ‘Drake Curse’ has come into existence. It would be a coincidence if it happened once or twice. But the ‘Drake Curse’ has now happened multiple times and it has surely raised many eyebrows.
In 2019, the Italian soccer club, AS Roma, posted a tweet in April stating that all Roma players were banned from taking photos with Drake till the end of the season. It was the season’s business end, and the Italian side was desperate to finish in the Top 4 to secure European soccer.

A few days later, Aguero misses a penalty in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal that Manchester City played against Tottenham. Manchester City then got eliminated from the Champions League over the span of two legs.
Paul Pogba was also spotted taking a photo with Drake just days before Manchester United’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Wolves in 2019. The Red Devils then went on to eventually lose that game.
