Is Miles Robinson's success more about talent or the strong family support he has?

Miles Robinson is living life in the fast lane. From making just four starts in his first two years with Atlanta United to finally becoming a leader of FC Cincinnati’s backline, the defender has endured a remarkable climb in his career. Not to mention, he also broke into Gregg Berhalter’s 2024 Copa America squad and will now seize his chance in the Paris Olympics 2024. There’s something about the 27-year-old that truly stands him out of the crowd.

All of this achievement certainly wouldn’t have been possible without the support of his family, which now compels us to dive deeper and determine more about the close ones who have been the pillars of stability and protection in shaping his career.

Miles Robinson was born to his father Jeff Robinson and his mother Jane Madden on March 14, 1997. The defender comes from a biracial couple, with Miles’ dad hailing from African-American ethnicity. Unfortunately, not many details, including early life and family background, are available regarding the couple who raised a star player. However, it is known that Jeff is a professional jazz musician, while his mother is the family’s primary provider.

Before Miles, his sister Rebecca Robinson was born, three years older than him. Interestingly, Rebecca was also active in soccer and played at the highest level she could during her teenage years. Early morning training drills alongside Miles contributed to her younger brother becoming the player he is today.

Rebecca now adds Flemming to her surname after marrying the love of her life, Adrian Quinn, in 2021. She is also a mother of two kids, a boy named Mason and a girl named Mya.

Being raised by hardworking parents in Arlington, Massachusetts, both Robinson kids were provided with the best until they stood on their own feet. Notably, Miles completed his early schooling at Quaker School. But his mother Jane believes it was his childhood school, Cambridge Friends School, which aided her son in recognizing his strengths.

However, things would have been different today for Miles if he hadn’t continued kicking the soccer ball.

Miles Robinson could challenge Atlanta Hawks’ own Trae Young!

Yes, you heard that right. Aside from practicing footy on the soccer pitch and futsal in the snowy northeastern winters, Miles Robinson made time for the Arlington High School basketball team. What he purely did just for fun alongside friends and schoolmates, turned him into a hero for his high school basketball team.

Even his basketball coach at Arlington High School, John Bowler, had nothing but praise for Miles: I think Trae Young [Atlanta Hawks guard] would have a hard time scoring on him.”

“Miles’ athletic IQ is off the charts. The way he saw the floor, the way he changed speeds to fool defenders, the way he timed his jumps for rebounds or jumping passing lanes. He was not only the most athletic player on the court, but he was also the smartest. I believe Miles would’ve been a D1 hoops player if that was his No. 1 sport,” added Mr. Bowler.

Though becoming a prospect in the NBA wouldn’t have been a bad idea, we’re glad Miles chose to stick with soccer.
