United took an extreme step after the interview and mutually terminated the contract of Ronaldo. The interview attracted criticism for Ronaldo as many former and current soccer players slammed the Portuguese. Since then, Morgan has always defended Ronaldo, and that’s what he has done while taking a dig at Ten Hag recently.
Piers Morgan trolls United manager over his comments on Cristiano Ronaldo
After receiving criticism from Ronaldo in his explosive interview, United manager Ten Hag commented on dropping him. He once said, “I had reasons, and I also knew the consequence if it was a negative outcome. But I am not worrying and I sleep well in those nights.”
United signed Wout Weghorst in January to cover the striker position. Ten Hag has preferred starting Weghorst in most of the games. Recently, their hope of finishing in the top four received a significant blow as they lost 2-0 to Newcastle United, who displaced them from the top four.

Morgan, who has been taking digs at the United manager, didn’t let the opportunity to troll him slip away. He took to Twitter after the United’s loss in the Premier League game, captioning the comments of Ten Hag on Ronaldo. The British broadcaster wrote, “Methinks Ten ‘I prefer Weghorst up front to Ronaldo’ Hag might need a few ambien tonight.'”
The loss on Sunday to Newcastle dropped United to fourth in the table. They are level on points with Tottenham Hotspur. However, United has played two lesser games than the Spurs. Newcastle outscored United on Sunday despite having lesser possession. United had only one shot on target compared to six by Newcastle. United will hope to bounce back from the disappointing defeat to consolidate their position in the top four.

United won their first trophy under Ten Hag this season when they beat Newcastle in the League Cup final. They will take on Spanish giant Sevilla in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Europa League this month. They are also in the semifinals of the FA Cup, where they will take on Brighton and Hove Albion.
Apart from the top-four finish, they are also in contention for two trophies. It will be interesting to see how Ten Hag manages the squad. Also, he will have to make his priorities clear before going into the business end of the season. United fans would hope for a better finish this season after their woes in recent seasons.
