Megan Rapinoe is known for her humourous commentary, but her latest comments, where she called out certain things as “bulls**t,” certainly grabbed attention. Recently in the ‘A Touch More Podcast’, Alex Morgan was asked about her proudest moment on or off the field. While she was talking about her equal pay fight, Rapinoe jokingly commented, “Bulls**t”.

The fight for equal pay has become a part of their legacy in the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) over the last ten years. For Alex Morgan, that victory will last even longer. Morgan also talked about how satisfied she is with this achievement and it will have a lasting impact on the future of women’s sport.

“It was six years of so hours of our life we cannot get back,” Morgan said, acknowledging the long, difficult road to finally securing equal pay for the USWNT. But she made it clear that this victory wasn’t just about them. “We’re necessarily going to benefit from but that’s just like irreversible,” Morgan explained.

Morgan was just as passionate about extending that work outside the U.S. Women’s National Team.

“The impact that it will continue to have not only on the US Women’s National Team but other teams around the world. Other women’s sports leagues,” she said. Even now, their effect has been felt with women’s teams around the globe, looking at the USWNT as a model of how to advocate for equality.

Women’s soccer teams in countries such as Australia, Brazil, and Norway have expressed encouragement for what the USWNT accomplished, and many teams have already begun raising similar requests with their federations.

Morgan is also proud to be a mother and a professional athlete. Morgan returned to the top level of competition after delivering her child. “Being a mom and coming back and playing at the highest level competing in a World Cup in an Olympics. That’s really special,” Morgan said.

Morgan mentioned that past USWNT moms, like Christie Pearce Rampone and Joy Fawcett, similarly opened doors, and now mothers have much greater support. “Now, moms like can achieve with all the support, help, and resources. Now, like I am really proud of kind of my advocacy,” she noted. She is proud of her advocacy work in this area because she knows it will help athletes of future generations.

Both Morgan and Rapinoe have done so much for USWNT over the past years. Morgan’s pride in fighting for equal pay and her advocacy for mothers in sports show that she remains focused on paving the way for future generations, and Rapinoe, for her openness and relentless quest for justice.

As both of them are towards the end of their careers, it is evident the goals they scored or the championships they won will not solely define their legacies. But their contributions outside the field, particularly regarding equal pay, have left a lasting impression on soccer and the global struggle for women’s equality.

Hats off to Alex Morgan and Co.!
