It looks like the Mauricio Pochettino deal is about to be sealed, signed, and delivered. After weeks of rumors, there are positive reports of the Argentine coach heading to the USMNT. The deal looks set to be done after his complicated exit from Chelsea. Issues related to compensation arose for the Argentine coach and he had to wait until the deal was done. Hence, a soccer reporter from ESPN detailed the issue. This comes as a brilliant notification for players ahead of the friendly clash against New Zealand.
In a post on X, Jeff Carlisle mentioned how the deal is set to be completed, explaining, “Sources tell ESPN that the USSF Board of directors is meeting shortly to approve the hiring of Mauricio Pochettino as #usmnt manager.” The USMNT lost to Canada 2-1 in a friendly match and it called out for Pochettino to sign for the national team ASAP. So, he could be the difference maker for the USMNT, after years of underperforming in soccer.

The manager took Chelsea to a sixth-place finish last season but left the club, which surprised many. The USMNT first approached Jurgen Klopp from Liverpool, who also left the club after nine years of service. Yet, he rejected those advances, and they swiftly turned their attention to Mauricio Pochettino. The US soccer federation wanted a man to lead the USMNT from the front.
The national team completely lost touch at the Copa America tournament this time around. They finished third in their group and Panama finished second. With all due respect to Panama, USMNT has better-established players around the pitch. Yet, the mighty heart of the Panama team prevailed. Henceforth, Pochettino would bring the discipline needed for the team to move forward. The concerns related to his compensation might end soon.

Mauricio Pochettino’s compensation details kept the deal at a slow pace
What’s your perspective on:
Could Pochettino be the game-changer the USMNT needs to dominate against New Zealand?
Have an interesting take?
In terms of compensation, Chelsea had to pay $13 million for Mauricio Pochettino after he left the club. But the Blues decided to stall over it and issues related to that slowed his deal with USMNT. While Pochettino is about to take over the USMNT reins, one can probably say those compensation issues became done and dusted. With the USMNT job at the forefront, no reports have emerged about the possible pay he would receive.
The deal might include sponsorships and other allowances. It would be a great package compared to the previous USMNT managers, simply because of his pedigree. He led Tottenham Hotspur to a Champions League final, managed the big egos of PSG, and took Chelsea to a respectable finish with the team in disarray. With USMNT in disarray, he can lead the team from the front.

Players like Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie could unleash their potential and become world-beaters. Hopefully, with Poch having a knack for developing players, he can help the USMNT to become a brilliant team before the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
