Toni Kroos was born to two athletes, Roland Kroos, and Birgit Kroos on January 5th, 1990. His father hails from Greifswald and is 64 years old. Roland was a wrestler during his initial days but had to give it up after an injury to his hand when he was 21 years old while his mother played professional badminton. Roland Kroos then took up soccer coaching and even brought Toni and his younger brother Felix under him during their younger days. Roland also coached FC Hansa Rostock, Germany’s second-division club’s youth team for 14 years before moving to Greifswalder FC, a club that plays in the regional leagues.

Meanwhile, in Greifswalder, he held various positions including the role of a manager and technical director. But citing his age, Toni’s father gave up coaching responsibilities and took an advisory role. However, he led the club to an important promotion to Regionalliga Nordost the third tier of German soccer.

On the other hand, Toni Kroos’ mother Birgit Kroos was an exceptional athlete herself. Also born in Greifswald, the 61-year-old mama of Toni won multiple national championships in East Germany including the 2 women’s singles titles and 8 team titles. She now works as a biology and sports teacher.

Meanwhile, Toni’s brother Felix is a year younger than him. Born in 1991 he also played soccer for Bundesliga clubs like Union Berlin and SV Werder Bremen. Felix has also represented Germany at the under-16 and under-21 levels. Mainly, playing as a central midfielder, he has 45 goals and 35 assists in more than 240 appearances to his name in his senior club career. Both siblings also run a podcast named Einfach mal Luppen on Spotify.

Kroos’ relationship with his father wasn’t as lenient as he expected it to be. The German international claimed that his father was half-coach and felt that he was a bit stringent. In addition, even his mother wanted him to extend his contract for a year at least. Overall, with so much of a sporting background surrounding him, it seems like the former Bayern Munich star was destined for greatness.
