Manchester City peaked under Pep Guardiola last year. Having won their first UEFA Champions League title in the 22-23 season, City completed a continental treble last year. Well, before that, the Sky Blues completed an English Premier League three-peat, winning the league title in 2021, 2022, and 2023. With this, City became the third club in which Guardiola did a domestic league three-peat. Elsewhere, in an interesting analogy, Guardiola’s success with Man City reminded F1 legend Sebastian Vettel of Max Verstappen‘s undisputed reign.

After hinting at an F1 comeback, Sebastian Vettel appeared on a recent talkSPORT episode to speak at length about the intricacies that color the sport. At one point, Vettel was asked if Max Verstappen’s back-to-back F1 World Championship wins bring a bad reputation to the sport by making it less competitive and boring. “I think from a competitive point of view, it’s normal. You always had phases where certain drivers or a certain team was dominating the sport. You could argue the same about other sports. The same football club winning the Premier League with I don’t know the last 10 years, mostly Man City,” said Sebastian Vettel.

Notably, Manchester City has won a staggering six titles in the last 10 years. Five of these trophies came in Pep Guardiola’s reign. Guardiola first won in the 2017-18 season and completed a two-peat by winning the next season. City lost the title to Liverpool in the 2019-20 season. But they went on to win three consecutive titles from 2020-21, 2021-22,  2022-23. Interestingly, Max Verstappen also won World Championships in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Therefore, Vettel’s comparison was on point. Now, Guardiola and Manchester City have a chance to showcase their Verstappen-esque domination in the Premier League once again.

A sixth Premier League title is not beyond Pep Guardiola’s grasp

As things stand now in the Premier League table, the title race looks like it will go on to the very last day. Liverpool and Manchester City are the second and third seeds respectively, tied with 67 points. It is a goal difference that has put Liverpool ahead. Meanwhile, the top-seeded Arsenal is just one point ahead of Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s side. It is not beyond Guardiola’s men to turn the tide and come out at the top. They have done so before. Last year, everybody thought Arsenal would win a title after the bygone Arsene Wenger era. But the Spaniard’s sky-blue squad tremendously upset Arsenal in the end.

Besides, heavyweight clashes still await Arsenal and Liverpool this season. Arsenal has to withstand the might of Manchester United and Chelsea. Meanwhile, a Merseyside derby with Everton and a premium clash with United are in the pipeline for Liverpool. Tottenham is the only powerhouse left for Manchester City to overcome in the remaining days. Besides they have already started to up their ante. Their recent clash against the fourth-seeded Aston Villa was a tremendous success with a 4-1 scoreline. If City were to make the best of this momentum, a fourth straight title is not beyond them.
