The wait of over a month has now come to an end. Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to steer the ship as USMNT‘s head coach. With many high-profile jobs out in the open, the Argentine took his flight and landed in the USA. After Emma Hayes’ inspiring success, it’s time to see what Poch brings to the team. First of all, confidence maybe. But the bigger picture remains unclear. He didn’t take up the England role.

For a coach with incredible experience in managing England, the Three Lions job could have been remarkable on his portfolio. The array of talent on the English side itself would be wonderful to work with. Therefore, a former Tottenham Hotspur player detailed his move to the U.S.

Alan Brazil pointed out in the TalkSport podcast show how Mauricio Pochettino could have taken the England soccer team’s job.

He stated,

“But you know, it’ll really sleeves up and get stuck into that. You know, it’s a great country. And you’ve got all the backing. He’ll get so much backing over there building up to the host nation of the World Cup. And he’s probably getting well-paid over there as well for it as well. Don’t worry about that.”

The US Soccer Federation, under technical director Matt Crocker, signed him up. Moreover, Crocker and Pochettino worked together, during their time, in Southampton, and managed a top-10 finish – the club’s best finish for a long time. Therefore, with the talent in the England squad, Poch’s tactics would have worked wonders.

Mauricio Pochettino snubs the England job for USMNT!

With players like Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Harry Kane, he could have set up a rigid structure similar to Gareth Southgate’s system, but with more fluidity in attack. Therefore, the USMNT will get someone to lead them from the front, building up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup the U.S.A. will host.

All the signs pointed out to England. But, his heart was set on the USMNT. With a young and dynamic squad, the USMNT has talented players. Yet, their organization is all over the place. Poch could bring in more discipline to the players who don’t appear to lack the seriousness.

Significantly, he would love to get rid of some bad eggs in the basket and reset the team after Gregg Berhalter’s reign. Hopefully, they can click into a few gears and get going. Otherwise, it would be the same old story for the USMNT – high expectations, and subpar performances! Do you think he will be a success? Let us know in the comments.
