It wasn’t the outcome that the USMNT anticipated to see against Panama. Not only Gregg Berhalter-led side endured a shocking 2-1 loss against their Group C rivals on Matchday 2, but it also came at the cost of losing Matt Turner. It didn’t look good on the goalkeeper’s behalf who left the pitch while giving fans a major concern regarding his injury. In fact, matters are about to take a turn for the worse as Turner believes his status to play against Uruguay remains ‘unclear.’

The upsetting news comes from the mouth of USMNT’s sideline reporter, Michele Giannone. Sharing the conversation he had with the former Arsenal man on X, Giannone revealed that Turner is quite dicey over his status against Uruguay. The goalie failed to give a clear answer and remains unclear if he would be able to play the final group stage fixture. Yet, hope remains within Turner to play against Luis Suarez’s side as he is giving 48 hours to his left knee and see how it responds.

That’s not all, as the goalkeeper knew something would happen since the beginning of the match. “Don’t know why but I had this feeling before the match that something bad was going to happen,” said Turner to Giannone. Coincidentally, his intuition did come out true as you know the rest of the story. The Nottingham Forrest man was replaced by Ethan Horvath just before the second half kicked off.

Yet, it was quite heroic of Turner to complete the first half. Though the 30-year-old conceded a goal, he did make some brilliant saves as well. While the biggest concern remains over Turner’s presence, one of his teammates will definitely miss the clash.

While Matt Turner remains a doubt, Tim Weah set to miss the Uruguay clash

Another unfortunate thing that transpired for the USMNT was near the 15th-minute mark. Tim Weah was trying to get free from Panama defender Roderick Miller near the center half of the pitch. However, the Juventus star became agitated, leading to an alleged physical altercation. He was seen slapping Miller on the head, causing Miller to fall to the pitch. This prompted the referee, Ivan Arcides Barton Cisneros from El Salvador, to consult VAR and issue Weah a red card.

As a result of this send-off, the 24-year-old will be unable to play in the crucial final group-stage fixture against Uruguay. While Weah even became a subject of criticism, Tyler Adams backed the youngster, insisting, “He [Weah] never mean to get a red card. Under no circumstances, he’s not that type of person. He apologized to the team.” Regardless, his absence will jeopardize USMNT’s chances of qualifying for the next round to some extent.
