The FIBA Basketball World Cup tournament saw Germany claiming the title. They won their first World Cup title, defeating Serbia with a score of 83-77. Dennis Schröder dropped 28 points, and the officials named him the Most Valuable Player in the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Notably, most sports athletes and players applauded the team for their triumph. Yet, one reaction saw a German soccer player drawing parallels to track and field star Noah Lyles’ ‘World Champion of What’ comment.

The viral press conference saw Lyles throwing some limelight on the current state of the track and field athletes. Undoubtedly, the track and field athletes receive less attention compared to other sports. Thus, he took a jab at the NBA by dissing the NBA title victory. With that in mind, Germany’s Mats Hummels came out with a similar dig!

Lyles won the 100 and 200 meters at the World Athletics Championships, following which he gave a press conference for ages. He stated, “You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States?” NBA stars Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, Draymond Green, Bam Adebayo, and Devin Booker reacted to the athlete’s surprising comments.

Nonetheless, Hummels delivered an observation of his own after Germany’s astonishing World Cup championship. He mentioned on X, “WORLD CHAMPIONS OF GERMANY” with a basketball emoji and a German national flag beside it. The US men’s team got knocked out in the semi-finals by Germany. After that, Canada staged a dramatic comeback to claim the third-place trophy in the FIBA Basketball World Cup tournament.

Hence, Noah Lyles produced an epic moment to take the limelight of the track and field athlete. However, for Hummels and his national soccer side, things went south following the surprising defeat to Germany.

Japan stuns Germany in International friendly

With the national team boss Hansi Flick under pressure to keep his job, Japan humbled Germany by scoring a historic victory. They won the game 4-1, and Mats Hummels’ 2014 World Cup team is losing its mojo. The DFB announced the sacking of Flick after the surprising loss. The team is in a rut following winless games in the past five matches and failed to make the World Cup group stage.
