With Messi on their side, Inter Miami progressed to the League Cup quarterfinals after winning the penalty shootout 5-3. However, the Herons will test fans’ patience to see Leo’s first action in MLS. David Beckham’s team confirmed that the clash against Charlotte FC (August 20) has been postponed to a later date.

Furthermore, he scored seven goals in just four appearances and helped the Herons reach the last eight in the points table. Regardless, it looks like Messi’s MLS debut has been delayed due to Inter Miami’s progression in the Leagues Cup. The Argentine legend’s debut for MLS play was scheduled against Charlotte FC for August 20. Following the promotion to the quarterfinals, Miami and its new No. 10 have been enjoying a dream run in the Leagues Cup. This is also the sole reason for the delay in Messi’s debut.

After progressing to the quarterfinals, the Herons got a matchup with Charlotte FC. Therefore, a postponement was required since both teams’ progress in the Leagues Cup. Now, Miami will face Charlotte in the quarterfinals Friday at DRV PNK Stadium.

In a statement, Inter Miami wrote: “Our regular season MLS match on August 20th against Charlotte FC has been postponed to a later date to be announced due to progression within the Leagues Cup. Tickets originally purchased for the Aug. 20”

With the announcement, Messi’s debut for MLS is now got scheduled for August 26, when Miami takes on New York Red Bulls. Unfortunately, the Herons are currently bottom of the Eastern Conference table with 18 points in 22 matches.

Thus, all hope now resides on Messi, who can still lead the team for a strong comeback in the season. Amid the struggle to reach the top, Inter Miami recently terminated goalkeeper Nick Marsman’s contract. Just weeks after questioning Lionel Messi’s signing, fans believe the 33-year-old star was forced to exit from the club.
