‘Sunderland Till I Die,‘ docuseries focused on the English club Sunderland, sparked Rob McElhenney’s keen interest in Wrexham. He later pitched the idea of acquiring Wrexham to Ryan Reynolds, and what followed is history. Sunderland Till I Die has not only influenced McElhenney to pursue soccer franchise ownership but also determined the narrative style in his docuseries Welcome to Wrexham. Wrexham’s show has been similar to Sunderland’s, focusing on the highs and lows of running a club. It also emphasizes the fan community’s contributions to a club. However, Welcome to Wrexham’s upcoming third season will have a different approach to story-telling.
Wrexham’s Executive Director, Humphrey Ker, appeared on a podcast episode and detailed what new additions one could expect in Welcome to Wrexham season 3. He hinted that fans could see the Red Dragons boss, Phil Parkinson, channel his inner Pep Guardiola.

Wrexham to switch to a Manchester City style and show more locker-room action
The 2023-24 season was historic for Wrexham. The Welsh side played in League Two after a 15-year absence and eventually secured a consecutive promotion to League One. Welcome to Wrexham‘s third installment concentrates on the club’s sensational ride in League Two. Besides, as Ker puts it, the new show will switch from the Sunderland Till I Die style to an All or Nothing: Manchester City style of story-telling. The Manchester City docuseries heavily feature Pep Guardiola shouting at players in the locker room. Similarly, Rob and Ryan’s new show will feature the Welsh team’s coach, Phil Parkinson, admonishing players.

“The one thing I can tell you is even more dressing room action this season, which I really like. There’s more of the nitty-gritty of people shouting at each other at halftime because we’re not playing very well,” said Humphrey Ker on an episode of the Men in Blazers podcast, as compiled by The Wrexham Insider. Since dressing room action is vital to increase viewership for any sports documentary, the Red Dragons’ new show will surely be box office. So when is this awaited docuseries releasing? Let’s find out.
