Soccer is one of the most physical sports in the world. The players are running, jumping, kicking, and falling all the time. Although happened on a top level, even Cristiano Ronaldo got punched straight to the face during a friendly match against PSG.

But, in the USA, soccer took a dark turn as two high school teams turned the soccer field into an MMA ring. Punches were thrown, kicks were made, and the audience saw as benches were empty in the blink of an eye. This isn’t the first brawl in the soccer world but, surely is the most unexpected one. And the most physical one at that.

A couple of months ago, a similar incident took place in Russia. While the world was busy watching the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Russian soccer league made headlines. In the middle of the game, players started fighting and benches were on the field. A similar but slightly different incident took place in Australia where the audience invaded the pitch flowing a flare-throwing incident. The match was called off, and one fan hit the goalkeeper on the head with a bucket.

Soccer players turned high school match into an MMA fight

Yesterday, the high school soccer tournament in the Valley shows a big brawl breaking down in the middle of the game. It happened in a game between Coronado and Cortez high school players. The clip from the incident is going viral as schools prepare to investigate the incident and take action.

In the clip of the game, one player from Cortez tripped and fell on the pitch while dribbling the ball. In an attempt to get the ball, the opponent player from Coronado kicks him and, following that hell, broke loose on the pitch. Within a second, there was a push from behind. The players sitting on the bench gunned it toward the center of the field as punches started to fly.

This incident ended with teams escorted from the pitch. However, as they were leaving, one coach was kicked from behind and fell down on the ground. AZ Central reported that he did not sustain any serious injury.

Schools prepare to investigate the matter

In the brewing storm of attention to the case, the governing body of the tournament has left it to the respective schools to decide the action. The match was called off as no contact. Both schools have issued statements on the incident and have reportedly started investigating.

The schools will internally handle the matter. As of now, they filed no charges. It appears that the matter will be a disciplinary case. It is a surprising incident and schools have apologized for the behavior players have displayed on the pitch.
