A cloud of sadness loomed over Bramall Lane, as Manchester United emerged victorious in a hard-fought win over Sheffield United. In remembrance of a lost United icon, Marcus Rashford took to his social media to dedicate the win to the late Sir Bobby Charlton.

Sir Bobby Charlton was one of the most decorated stars to wear Manchester United’s red. Notably, Charlton was part of England’s 1966 team that won the World Cup and was the last surviving member of the Busby Babes. The United icon passed away last night at the age of 86.

Manchester United managed to overcome Sheffield United’s challenge away from home bagging a 2-1 win. The Red Devils seemed to struggle at first, but goals from Scott McTominay and Diogo Dalot saved the night for the Mancunians. United forward Marcus Rashford took to his social media following the game to pen a message for the late club icon.

The player thanked the veteran for her support throughout the years as he penned his condolences. The post read, “Signed my first professional contract at Man Utd with Sir Bobby. Thank you for all the support and advice that you provided to me. That win was for you and your family ❤️”

Sir Bobby Charlton passed away last night at the age of 86. According to reports,  he passed away peacefully in his sleep. Manchester United, following the tragic passing, made a public statement to pay their tribute to the club icon.

Manchester United pay homage to club icon

Manchester United issued a public statement following the unfortunate passing of Sir Bobby Charlton. The player had an illustrious career for the club as he made 758 appearances, scoring 249 goals during his 17 years with the club.

“The club’s heartfelt sympathies are with his wife, Lady Norma, his daughters and grandchildren, and all who loved him. A hero to millions, not just in Manchester, or the United Kingdom, but wherever football is played around the world. He was admired as much for his sportsmanship and integrity as he was for his outstanding qualities as a footballer; Sir Bobby will always be remembered as a giant of the game,” read the statement released by the club.
