President Marcelo Teixeira in a recent interview revealed the possibility of Neymar returning to the club. He said, “Neymar called me and told me to take off the number 11 jersey until he returns.” The president explained that he was quite hopeful and happy regarding Neymar’s stance. Regarding the possible comeback operation, he said, “I’m going to put it in our group so we can study it”, as translated by translate.mom. Moreover, Teixeira added that Neymar will wear the jersey once they secure a promotion to the top league.

Considering Santos are currently relegated, it seems the Brazilian is waiting for their eventual promotion. Previously, the club had retired the iconic no 10 jersey due to the death of Pele, Brazil’s biggest-ever star. Hence, it looks like they are planning to retire the no 11 jersey as well, but it might be until 2025, when Neymar’s Al Hilal contract expires.

The president’s statements align well with the news reported by journalist Ademir Quintino back in September. Quintino had reported on Neymar’s strong desire to return to Santos. He also added this as the reason why the Brazilian didn’t sign a 4-year contract with Al Hilal.
