Injuries are an unfortunate part of every sport and soccer is no different. Be it horror tackles, mistimed challenges, or just general nasty coming-togethers, the high-octane contact sport has seen many grotesque injuries but we’re about to show you perhaps the worst one yet. Earlier today, 5x Ballon D’or winner Cristiano Ronaldo’s ex-teammate played an unfortunate role in one of the more brutal visuals in a soccer match in recent history.
The 1st leg tie between Fluminsese and Argentinos Juniors may have reflected a mundane 1-1 draw. However, fans at Buenos Aires’ Maradona stadium witnessed a horror show just minutes into the second half. While it may have been a blink and a miss initially, replays of the coming together saw fans take to Twitter and express their shock.

Clean leg breaks are rare in soccer and the clip has sent shivers across the fanbase, leaving the Fluminese left-back in tears on the pitch. Marcelo was dribbling past Luciano Sanchez when his leading foot caught the Argentine on his shin. The 35-year-old was devastated after looking at the injury and other teammates did their best to try and console him. Without a doubt, nobody would want to be on the giving or receiving end of such a career-ending tackle. Although unintentional, upon review, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) gave Marcelo a red card for the challenge in the 58th minute.
The Brazilian posted a heartwarming message for Sanchez while wishing for his speedy recovery. He wrote, “Today I had to live a very difficult moment on the field. I unintentionally injured a fellow professional. I want to wish you the best possible recovery, @luciano.sanchez03. All the strength in the world!”
Apart from the veteran Brazilian’s remorseful post, fans took to their social handles to share their immediate thoughts due to the grisly nature of the tackle.

A cross-sport fan was quick to state his views. He claimed an injury like this has a 0.01% chance. And injuries like these are usually witnessed in the UFC.
That type of break is literally like 0.01% likely to happen. Only ever seen something like it in kick-boxing or the ufc. Hoping this guy heals up and still has a career to get back to 🙏🏻
