Moreover, the former coach is under investigation after his 20-year-old altercation with his then-girlfriend came out. The incident shocked the whole nation, thus, sending him to the USSF for further inquiry. The nation reportedly has zero intention of offering him a new contract.

In the meantime, several coaches have been linked with the job, with the likes of Zidane and Mourinho. However, there’s a special man whose name has come up to the table.

Argentine coach linked with US soccer job

According to several reports, the USMNT is eyeing the legendary Argentinian coach, Marcelo Bielsa, as a replacement for Berhalter. The 67-year-old has come as a suitable replacement to lead the boys to glory.

The country is set to host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico and is looking for a breakthrough for their men’s side. Hence, in such a glorious event, the expectations are high, as they will play on their home soil.

This isn’t the first time his name has made the headlines as the links between him and the USMNT have come before in 2011. Bielsa does have a knack for coaching international teams, having led Argentina and Chile for six and four years, respectively.

Should they want Bielsa as a man in charge, they must act fast as the manager is already a potential candidate for Premier League strugglers, Everton. The Toffees recently sanctioned the departure of Frank Lampard and have shortlisted the former Leeds man.

A risky choice?

The US is right in every sense to hire Bielsa as the man in charge. However, before getting too excited, they must be aware of certain drawbacks he possesses.

He is a coach who is famous for his aggressive style of play. Moreover, the manager is known for his hard personality and tough ego, hence, everyone must be aware of his nature, especially fans.

Back in 1992, when Bielsa was in charge of Newell’s Old Boys, his side lost 6-0 to San Lorenzo. The defeat saw him getting hate by all Newell’s fans. It even came to an extent that angry fans came to his house.

Of course, no one was hurt, but it really shows his crazy side. God forbid if, one day, he joins the USMNT and a similar encounter occurs with American fans. We hope that day never comes!
