Over decades, a plethora of exceptional talent and iconic partnerships have graced the Premier League. Among them, one that remains in the history books is the ultimate duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney at Manchester United. Yet, their iconic alliance on the pitch was shockingly snubbed in the list of the Premier League’s greatest duo of all time in one of the latest episodes of ‘That Peter Crouch Podcast.’
Co-host Chris Stark asked fellow co-host Peter Crouch to compare a few of the finest PL partnerships and pick his best. The first contenders were Arsenal’s iconic duo, Thierry Henry & Dennis Bergkamp, pitted against Chelsea’s Andy Cole & Dwight Yorke. Without any hesitation, Crouch chose Henry & Bergkamp. Surprisingly, he remained steadfast in his preference for the Gunners’ legendary pair in further rounds, even when formidable duos like Blackburn Rovers’ Alan Shearer & Chris Sutton and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez & Daniel Sturridge came into the conversation.
Interestingly, when the option of Wayne Rooney & Cristiano Ronaldo came, Crouch said, “That is a mad one. [But] I’m gonna go with Henry & Bergkamp.” While the astonishment takes a double fold with this response, hear his unique explanation. “Listen, Rooney and Ronaldo are world-class. My personal opinion on the two players is, I don’t know whether I’m nostalgic or what, but Bergkamp is possibly my favorite player of all time, and Henry, I think, is the best player who’s played in the Premier League.” But wait for a hilarious twist!

In the final round, when asked to choose between Henry & Bergkamp and his partnership with Jermain Defoe at both Portsmouth and Tottenham, Crouch chose his own pairing. Notably, this isn’t the first time he has stirred a debate within the soccer fraternity with his controversial take.

Not the first time Peter Crouch has given a cold shoulder to Cristiano Ronaldo
Peter Crouch’s snub for the iconic duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney isn’t the only thing that might ruffle a few feathers. Earlier, the former English international settled the never-ending GOAT debate between CR7 and Lionel Messi boldly. In his podcast, he said, “I don’t know if I should say this or not. I feel if you say Ronaldo, you don’t know football very well.”
Even though co-host Chris Stark reminded the former striker of the potential backlash that many could perceive his stance as ‘insulting,’ Crouch remained resolute. “I think Ronaldo is incredible – incredible – but I do look a little bit down on you if you say Ronaldo,” he concluded. There you go. One wouldn’t even think to present a counter-response to the former Stoke City striker regarding his views on the GOAT debate.
