The Red Devils were coming off a 3-1 win against West Ham in the FA Cup. However, all that confidence went in vain after they suffered a shocking defeat. Braces from Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez and a goal from Roberto Firmino helped Jurgen Klopp’s side win three points.

The whole Manchester United squad was responsible for the embarassing defeat. Hence, there might be some harsh decisions coming from the manager for future fixtures.

Ten Hag makes huge Bruno Fernandes call

One such harsh decision that was rumored quite a lot was Bruno Fernandes getting stripped of the captaincy. It was said that the manager has lost faith in the skipper. However, during a recent press conference, the manager denied such rumors.

“He’s playing a brilliant season, he’s had a really important role in why we’re in the position where we are, and he’s giving energy to the team – not only running a lot at the highest intensity but the right way and right direction.” said Ten Hag.

The manager insists he still has a lot of faith in the Portuguese midfielder, and he will continue to captain his side in the absence of Harry Maguire.

The fans and media criticized several players after the heavy defeat, with Fernandes being the prime target. Many soccer pundits claimed he lacked leadership against the Merseyside club. The Red Devils cannot dwell on the defeat as they have a major European game in the pipeline.

Manchester United continues preparations for European showdown

Manchester United qualified for the Round of 16 after defeating La Liga giants, FC Barcelona. The Premier League side won 4-3 on aggregate against Xavi’s side. Hence, they’ll be looking to continue their winning ways in the European tie.

On the other hand, Real Betis will look to clinch a victory at Old Trafford, as both clubs are facing each other for the very first time. Nevertheless, it would be an interesting match to watch, as both sides are desperate for a win.
