Erling Haaland‘s involvement in Manchester City’s success is unquestionable. The Norwegian superstar’s goal contributions have cemented his status as an important asset for the English side. While City can bank on his services until 2027, concerns are looming over his future in England. Despite boasting a hefty $215 million release clause, Pep Guardiola and Co. are exploring avenues to secure their star player for the long haul.

Recent rumors suggested that Haaland was unhappy and was looking to leave, with Real Madrid eyeing his services. However, Mirror’s Simon Mullock suggests that the defending champions are working on securing the 23-year-old to a new contract, intending to extend his stay till 2029. This would also help them renegotiate their No. 9’s buy-out clause, which will activate at £171 million or $250 million this summer. The new deal might see Haaland earn more from his current wage of £375,000 or $ 472,000 per week, plus bonuses. On the other hand, this comes as a huge blow for Real Madrid.

Since the Spanish side will likely be signing Kylian Mbappe, Florentino Perez would have also wanted to pursue Haaland in 2025 for a reduced release clause of £150 million, or $189 million for foreign clubs. However, if Haaland agrees to take the lucrative deal from Man City, then Los Blancos is in for a big blow. Additionally, the Spanish club’s concerns can grow even more, as Pep Guardiola will himself persuade the Norwegian international to stay put.
