Other than Brazilian prodigy Savinho’s $43.3 million move to Manchester City, Pep Guardiola‘s side has been rather bearish in this transfer window. City made more news by off-loading players, as World champion striker Julian Alvarez agreed to leave Etihad and join Atletico Madrid. That’s not all. The reigning Premier League champions are keen on letting more plans move out of Manchester. And Kalvin Phillips’ struggle to become a City mainstay continues, as Guardiola and Co. engineer another loan move for the midfielder.
Firstly, Manchester City reportedly mulls over selling 18-year-old Joel Ndala on a permanent transfer. Dutch club Ajax and Italian outfit Venezia are the two top suitors vying for the teenage winger’s signature. Ndala became a part of City’s youth system when he was 11.
He boasts England U-17 experience under his belt and later rose through the ranks in Etihad to become a part of the Sky Blues’ senior team in the last season. However, Pep Guardiola did not field the 18-year-old at least on one occasion.

Therefore, it would indeed be a smart business move if Manchester City could sell the homegrown English winger to another European giant. Ndala, anyhow, will only be the second young blood to depart the City camp during this transfer window.
On August 09, the Sky Blues offloaded 20-year-old Micah Hamilton to the Championship club, Middlesbrough, on a permanent deal. Meanwhile, Guardiola and Co. have a list of players who would complete their loan deals this month. Kalvin Phillips is one of them. But one loan deal’s end has opened the door to another, in Phillips’ case.

Per the latest updates from Etihad, Manchester City has agreed to loan Kalvin Phillips to Ipswich Town. The deal is expected to be complete by this Friday. City’s loan, however, does not include a sale option. Pep Guardiola had loaned Phillips to West Ham in the January transfer window.
Phillips’ persistent struggles to become a City mainstay saw him join West Ham. Having joined the Sky Blues in 2022 after leaving Leeds United, the 28-year-old registered a meager 16 appearances at the Etihad.

After a West Ham United stint spoiled by injuries and a drop in form, Phillips made it back to the City camp ahead of their FA Community Shield win against Manchester United. But as usual, Phillips was benched in the headline Manchester Derby.

While there have been more outflows than inflows this transfer season, Pep Guardiola and Co. are keen on pursuing a couple of signings, if they find the right players. Similar to Phillips, Joao Cancelo also saw his loan deal end in this transfer window.
There’s a chance that he will also face the same fate as the Ipswich Town-bound City star. Only time will tell how the remainder of the transfer season pans out for the 2023 European champions.
