Euro 2024 is nearly upon us but there is no time to relax for the Manchester City think tank. Last season was a close whisker as Pep Guardiola’s side overcame Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal by just 2 points. As such, with the Gunners plotting for new recruits like Benjamin Sesko, the English Champions are also keen to bolster their squad. The likes of Joshua Kimmich and Bruno Guimaraes are some of the big names linked with the Sky Blues. Yet what’s the latest update regarding the transfer scenario at the club? Let’s dive into the stories.

As per reports, Pep Guardiola is keen on signing his former strategist Joshua Kimmich this summer. The German midfielder could also serve as Kyle Walker’s backup if needed. Previously, Kimmich was indispensable for Bayern Munich. However, rumors suggest he had issues with former coach Thomas Tuchel bringing uncertainty into his future at Allianz Arena. While Kimmich would be a statement signing for Manchester City, at this moment, nothing is advanced regarding a transfer.

Also, Pep Guardiola & Co are keeping tabs on AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez. His performances since arriving at San Siro have been excellent. But, the signing won’t be easy as his former club Real Madrid is also interested. The links to Theo Fernandez suggest that Manchester City has almost finalized the sale of Sergi Gomez to Real Sociedad.

Notably, Gomez, who plays both in a left wingback and midfield position, has struggled for game time since arriving in 2022. Now 23, Gomez needs more playing time, and moving away seems the best option.

Not all the links are exciting for the Manchester City faithful. In fact, the Sky Blues might be set to miss out on their ideal İlkay Gündoğan replacement.

The latest on Manchester City’s pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes

Just like Ilkay Gündoğan, Guimaraes was blessed with the versatility to play anywhere in midfield. Being Premier League-proven, the Brazilian midfielder would have delighted the Etihad with his talents. Unfortunately, it looks like Manchester City ruled out a move for Newcastle despite being a major transfer target. The hurdle is his release clause which is over $100 million.

On a different note, a Bundesliga goalkeeper has rejected a move to Etihad this summer. The man in focus is Werder Bremen shot-stopper Michael Zetterer. Recently, Manchester City has been linked to a whole host of goalkeepers, due to uncertainty regarding Ederson. There have been rumors that Al Nassr would move in for the Brazilian star.
