The UEFA Champions League action is back for Manchester City. Following an emphatic 3-1 victory in the Manchester derby during the weekend, the Sky Blues will host Copenhagen for the RO16 2nd leg on Wednesday night. While preparations for the much-anticipated match are in full swing, there is a massive injury update concerning Jack Grealish and Josko Gvardiol.

Already, the past few months have seen the defending champions grapple with several injuries. Speaking for Grealish, the England international suffered a groin injury during the team’s 6-2 victory over Luton in the FA Cup, forcing him to exit the pitch after just 38 minutes.

As a result, he was also absent from the clash against United. Pep Guardiola confirmed in the presser that the winger will miss upcoming international fixtures, emphasizing the need for him to recover thoroughly for future use. Consequently, Grealish is expected to be sidelined for the title showdown against Liverpool and the FA Cup quarterfinal against Newcastle.

He may return for the match against Arsenal on March 31 but is likely to miss the Brighton clash as well. However, on the brighter side, the sun shines brightly for Josko Gvardiol. The defender had earlier sustained an ankle injury and returned to the matchday squad against United. Yet, the former RB Leipzig star remained an unused substitute as Guardiola chose not to rush him back into action.

Hence, it’s possible that the Croatian defender can feature against Copenhagen. Meanwhile, with other players fit to play the return leg, City will look to put the game to bed easily.

There is no turning back for Manchester City now

Wednesday’s 2nd leg clash should be a straightforward test for Manchester City to pass. Pep Guardiola’s side has the first-leg advantage, as they won the away game 1-3. Now, they will be hosting Copenhagen at the Etihad Stadium and will be eager to put the nail in the coffin. However, anything can happen, as the Danish giants would be looking to surprise the Premier League side. Yet, the Cityzens are buzzing with confidence, thanks to the Manchester derby win.

The likes of Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne will look to deliver as usual. While Erling Haaland remains a subject of criticism, let’s hope he doesn’t struggle to find goals again. Although Jack Grealish is out, Jeremy Doku will gladly grab the opportunity to impress for his side.

In short, City will look to book their place in the Champions League quarterfinals. After this, they will refocus on the PL as the clash against Liverpool looms.
