The club confirmed on Thursday that the midfielder had tragically passed away. At this moment, the cause of her untimely death remains undisclosed, casting a somber shadow over the soccer community.
In a statement on the club’s official website, chief executive Stephen Bettis said, “This is heart-breaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane. Maddy had a unique position of being part of a number of teams at Sheffield United and was popular with everyone that she came into contact with”. Aside from Maddy Cusack’s domestic club, several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City, also sent their respects to Maddy and her family.

Born on October 28, 1995, Cusack enjoyed an illustrious and fairly loyal soccer career. She was an integral part of Sheffield United’s women’s team since joining the club in 2019. She made more than 100 appearances for the Blades and also was the ‘longest-serving member’ on the roster. The team captain was on a one-year extension while also managing her secondary work profile at the Blades’ offices.
In addition to her on-field prowess, she also served as a marketing executive for the Premier League side. Her talent took her through various teams across the country, with the midfielder representing Birmingham and Aston Villa before joining the Blades.
