Lynn Williams' gold medal mishap—proof that even Olympians have their clumsy moments. What's your take?

Lynn Williams‘ maiden Olympic gold medal took no damage when she swirled it mimicking a hammer throw. But it couldn’t survive long enough during Team USA’s raucous Olympic win celebrations. Revealing how hilariously Williams broke the ‘world’s most expensive coaster,’ she stressed she won’t take any blame for the bizarre mishap. Rather, she complained about the International Olympic Committee’s medal-making and urged them to make the medals ‘sturdier.’

Lynn Williams recalled the funny gold medal fiasco in a video she posted on social media. While preparing soup and English muffins, the US striker said, “I got carried away with the celebratory actions.” That was just a prelude to that crazy celebratory night that saw Williams’ gold medal go off the ribbon. The Gotham FC star added, “Obviously, you guys all saw me swinging the thing around.” She then showed a clip of her swinging the medallion while partying after the Olympic win. But that wild move did nothing to harm the highest Olympic prize.

“Ironically, that’s not how it broke. I’m sure it didn’t help, but that’s not how it broke,” she added. Turns out, things went awry when the 31-year-old started dancing with her USWNT pals. “I had it on my shoulder like a little purse, and I was just jumping, dancing jumping, and I jumped down, and it just fell off. So everybody was dancing, and I was roaming around trying to get my medal off the ground,” Williams said.

“And the little bar is gone, so I don’t know what happened. The bar got loose, and it fell out,” Lynn Williams continued. She also showed her fans that the gold medallion had sustained a dent. Indeed, when the medal falls off on a dance floor, it would surely get a dent. Williams, anyhow, waits for the IOC to replace her damaged medal.

Lynn Williams is relieved that she’s a gold medallist but calls out IOC’s medal-manufacturing

In the end, Lynn Williams let out a sigh of relief, saying the fact that she broke the medal was funny and the only thing that mattered was she won the Olympic gold. However, she hoped the IOC would soon get back to her with a fresh piece of the gold. “They should have made them more sturdy, and honestly, I can’t be faulted for that,” said Williams, calling out the Olympic organizers. Then, she revealed she was waiting for a new one.

They said I could probably get one,” she said. “I had to prove to them that it was in fact damaged. Now we’re just waiting to see,” Gotham FC striker continued. The IOC reportedly has a surplus stock of medals, which they could potentially use as replacements. Besides, medals could be repaired as well. As Williams said, the IOC needs her to prove that she broke her medal. Now that, the story behind the medal mishap is the talk of the town, the IOC would likely meet the USWNT star’s demand.
