“I don’t need to feed my ego with these stories about big offers…”. Here’s what Croatian maestro Luka Modric had to say after previously rejecting a contract offer from Al Hilal. The contract would have seen the playmaker pocket an eye-watering salary of $215 million! However, it looks like this is not the only big-money move that the Croatian has rejected. An unnamed Saudi club had recently offered the veteran midfielder a huge contract offer. Could it be Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, who has been linked with Modric?

This is the information from the Spanish soccer show El Chiringuito de Jugones. Despite not specifying the club name, Tomas Roncero on the show revealed key details regarding the Saudi interest in the legendary playmaker. He said, “Modric rejected 100 million euros from Arabia because he loves Real Madrid.” This aligns with what he said after snubbing Al Hilal. Then, the Croatian said, “I just want to enjoy every moment of soccer and Real Madrid.” However, considering Modric’s age and his Los Blancos role this season, is rejecting Saudi a good option?

For starters, this is the first time possibly since his arrival that Luka Modric is not an undisputed starter. Jude Bellingham and Camavinga’s stunning form has proved to be costly for the Ballon d’Or winner. At 38, he is in the twilight of his career. Modric had the option to go down the Cristiano Ronaldo route and rediscover his best form at a club like Al Nassr. While many Saudi clubs are interested in acquiring his services, Al Nassr is not likely to be his preferred choice, should he move to Saudi. After all, he has already snubbed them once in the past.

Former Barcelona player Vucevic was the sporting director at Al Nassr until 2023. Recently, he revealed the club’s ambitious plan to reunite Modric with Cristiano Ronaldo. He said, “At Al-Nassr, we had several serious talks with Luka Modric, and we wanted to sign him. But, he told us that if Real Madrid offered him a new contract, he would stay.” Los Blancos offered a 1-year deal, which Modric accepted, thus foiling Al Nassr’s plans.
