Last month, Inter Miami reportedly agreed to have a deal with the Brazilian club Gremio to sign Luis Suarez. Suarez called it a day with the Brazilian outfit this month, despite having a year and half remaining in his two-year contract. The Uruguayan will reportedly ink a one-year deal with an option to renew a contract with Inter Miami. While Suarez can reunite with his best pal Lionel Messi, he won’t enjoy the same privileges as the latter. The sensational striker will have to take a massive pay cut if he were to join Miami.

Inter Miami has not made an official announcement regarding Luis Suarez’s contract and salary. However, reports estimate his potential salary to be much less than what he earned with Gremio. When compared with Messi’s salary, Suarez’s projected paycheck looks dwarfed.

Luis Suarez will reportedly earn $200,000 per year at Inter Miami. It is quite shocking to note that Suarez drew an even larger paycheck per month as a Gremio player. Per his contract with Gremio, Suarez could earn at least $4 million a year as salary. He terminated such a relatively lucrative contract for what? For a potential reunion with Leo Messi. And how much is his old pal earning? He earns at least a whopping $50 million in salary with David Beckham‘s club. The drastic difference between Suarez’s projected salary and Messi’s salary might seem unreal. But there are reasons behind this massive pay gap.

Had El Pistolero joined Inter Miami as a designated player, he could have boasted a seven-figure salary. A designated player earns huge money above the club’s salary cap. Per the MLS rules, a club can have three designated players. Now, all three slots are filled at Inter Miami. Leo Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Brazil star Gregore are the three DPs in Miami. Therefore, Suarez will have to agree to a salary under the designated player threshold. Anyhow, the discourse around Suarez’s potential Miami switch is speculative at large. The Uruguayan striker is yet to open up about the switch.

Suarez maintains a tight lip

Per a recent report that did rounds on the web, Luis Suarez will debut for Inter Miami on January 19. Neither the club nor the player has confirmed this. In a few of his recent interviews, Suarez has made it clear that he is yet to speak with Messi about the potential reunion. Perhaps a designated player option and a better offer might have prompted the Uruguayan to give a nod to Beckham and the Mas Brothers.
