In a recent interview, the Uruguayan international compared the tactical differences he faced while playing on the ‘counterattack’ and compared it to his time with Lionel Messi.

They have made significant progress under Jurgen Klopp. However, Luis Suarez reveals that during his stint, the game plan was different. The 36-year-old also compared the style to his national team Uruguay He said, “Liverpool played very much on the counterattack very far away and fighting against each other.” He also pointed out that his national team also had a similar style to the Premier League giants. Luis Suarez has revealed he faced some difficulties after moving to Barcelona. He spoke about the changes he had to make to his style.

 

The Uruguayan forward further said, “The quality of players I had then in Barcelona you make your space”. The star forward pointed out that it was a different ball game with players like Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and others. Hence, he could not play like he played with the national team and Liverpool. He decided to start playing one-touch and also created chances with his back to goal. The player had a different set of challenges at every club. However, Luis Suarez quickly adjusted to it and enjoyed success, sometimes in the form of goals and sometimes in terms of trophies.

The Uruguayan forward enjoyed enormous success at both clubs

At Liverpool in his three-year stay, he picked up his form in the second season. In the 2012/13 season, he scored 30 goals in 40 games in all competitions. This is despite the club finishing 7th in the Premier League table. He continued the goal-scoring and racked up 31 goals in 37 games in the following season. The Uruguayan forward almost single-handedly helped the team finish 2nd.

This knack for scoring goals also earned him a move to Barcelona. After the move, what followed was Neymar, Lionel Messi and himself winning trophies every season.
