Does Al Nassr need an upgrade, or can Cristiano Ronaldo bring home the Saudi Pro League title all by himself? The club has already transformed the soccer landscape in the country by bringing major soccer stars to sign contracts. However, the club still needs to level up and cover the ‘potholes’, claimed the bossman, Luis Castro. He is doing his best to support the Portuguese legend by structuring the team and tactics around him. But is that enough?

Luis Castro was brought in after a disappointing finish to the last season by the club. After Cristiano Ronaldo was unimpressed by the former coach’s tactics, Castro now seems to be working well with the team’s captain. However, CR7 is at a level above the team, which evidently needs to rise and it looks like the head coach has publicly guided the board’s attention towards the same.

Al Nassr has been in scintillating form this season and Cristiano Ronaldo has been at the pinnacle of his performances. But the coach expects the whole team to pitch in. Extolling the 38-year-old, Luis Castro said, “For Ronaldo to reach his full potential, we must build a team around him to enhance his capabilities. We cannot have a powerful car and want to drive it on a road full of potholes.” While Cristiano Ronaldo is the undisputed leader with 20 goals and 10 assists this season, Castro acknowledges the team needs to step up to truly capitalize on his talent.

Brazilian Anderson Talisca is another player who has helped the team with great performances while scoring 19 goals. Al Nassr’s 20-game unbeaten streak was impressive, but Luis Castro sees greater potential by amplifying Cristiano Ronaldo’s contributions. Though major trophies remained elusive, his individual brilliance proved to be a beacon for the team last season. His 14 goals and 2 assists in just 16 games ignited fire, and only Talisca’s 21-goal haul rivaled his individual contributions previously. This year the team will look to capitalize further.

The second half of the season is crucial for Al Nassr’s success

The Riyadh-based team let go of the league trophy last season from the tip of their fingers. Learning from the same, the club would prefer not to mess up the second half of the current season. Even though the team is 10 points away from Al Hilal, Luis Castro and Co. will strive to maintain a good run of form on the pitch with the possibility of bringing in a few new elite names as well.
