Soccer isn’t just a sport: it’s a way of life for many, with passion that has been running down generations. While Emma Hayes is a legend at Stamford Bridge, her mother, Miriam revealed that the USWNT manager grew up as a devoted Tottenham Hotspur fan. Who would ever thought that the former Chelsea manager was a Spurs fan?
If someone had said she was a Liverpool fan, it would make sense, given that she started her managerial career coaching the women’s soccer team at Liverpool Hope University College. Perhaps during her 12 years at Chelsea, her heart felt a throb every time her Blues side triumphed over Spurs. But considering all she’s won with Chelsea, it didn’t hurt her that bad right?
“I’m a true Chelsea fan I’m afraid, my heart is there, I am Chelsea, through and through, my father, my brothers, all Chelsea,” said Hayes’ mother, Miriam, in an interview with B/R Football. “I have a daughter who’s Tottenham(fan) and another daughter’s Tottenham(fan) and another daughter who’s Tottenham(fan) and I had a husband who’s Tottenham(fan)“

In domestic football, Hayes has enjoyed unparalleled success, winning the FA Women’s Super League seven times! Her Chelsea side became a dominant force under her era, with 5 of those league triumphs coming between the 2019–20 season to the 2023–24 season. Both sides settled for a draw with neither being able to break the deadlock. Hayes’ side had rested the famous ‘Triple Espresso’ to give a chance to younger players, but they failed to capitalize on it. While on paper the draw was rather boring, but it was a fine display of football between two heavy-weights, who will have all eyes on them during the World Cup.
For now, Hayes’ focus is on the final friendly fixture against the Netherlands ahead of the International break. Having won trophies wherever she’s been, perhaps Emma Hayes will one day guide the North London club to silverware. Until then we can only wait and watch to see if she ever steps foot at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
