Lost Nearly $3,500,000 With Wrexham, Ryan Reynolds Can Recoup $1.4 Million if His Team Wins Next 5 Games

Wrexham AFC is a club that came to fame after the takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in February 2021. It is the second entire season as owners for Reynolds and McElhenney, and Wrexham is already eyeing a promotion to the fourth tier of English soccer, League Two. 

Meanwhile, Wrexham recently published the financials for the year ending June 2022. They did report a surge in revenue. However, the club saw massive losses of over $3.5 million. It came as a shock despite the rise in income.

Now the owners can recoup part of their losses by winning the remaining games in the Vanarama National League.

Wrexham can get $1.4 million without playing a game

The Welsh club is currently top of the table, with a three-point lead over the nearest title rivals Notts County. They also have a game in hand, which means a win will guarantee them a six points lead at the top before going into a game against County. The winners of the National League will get automatically promoted to League Two.

If Wrexham wins the remaining games, they will get that automatic promotion spot and will be entitled to get a massive $1.4 million payment. The two clubs that get promoted to League Two get $1.4 million, covering their share of TV income/sponsorship and the annual Premier League solidarity payment.

It will be a boost for the club, which suffered a $3.5 million loss in the year that ended in June 2022. The payment from EFL will help the club to boost its squad to sustain the high level of competition in League Two. The club will look to win all the remaining games to top the league.

Wrexham is currently on a 27-game unbeaten run. And they look like a potential candidate to get automatically promoted from the Vanarama National League ahead of Notts County.

The game against Notts County will be crucial

Wrexham will take on Notts County on Monday, April 10. It will be a crucial game in the context of the title. Notts County is also in significant form this season and will be desperate to win the game to cut down the lead.
