Let’s be very honest: Euro 2024 was a disaster for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar made his way to the quarterfinals of the tournament, where he was shown the door out by Kylian Mbappe’s France. While many fans would jump to defend CR7 after a rough stint, it’s blatantly obvious the player failed to deliver for his team this summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo made 5 appearances throughout the tournament, with head coach Roberto Martinez playing the 39-year-old in every game. While the team was hoping their skipper would turn out to be their x-factor like he did during the Euro Qualifiers, the actual performance was pretty disastrous. CR7 failed to score a single goal during the competition, which included some point-blank chances.
This is the first time in a while that CR7 has gone over five games without scoring a single goal. The last time CR7 did not have any goals in five games or more was when he played for Manchester United in his early days. The 2008–09 season saw the Portuguese superstar fail to score in 7 games, which included 5 Premier League fixtures, 1 Club World Cup, and 1 EFL Cup game.

What’s next for Cristiano Ronaldo after the Euro 2024 horror?
Cristiano Ronaldo has to be disappointed after his lackluster Euro campaign. The Portuguese skipper was hoping to end his European career on a high, but it looks like the player will have to end his international career empty-handed, with 2016’s European silverware his only achievement on the big stage. Unless Cristiano decides he is not done and wants to play in the 2026 World Cup, until then, the Euros would be the last time where we saw CR7 don the Portugal shirt in a major international tournament.
Meanwhile, his club career is still not over, as the player is expected to reunite with his Al Nassr teammates in the coming months. Cristiano Ronaldo signed an extension with the Middle Eastern club earlier this year and is expected to be with the team for an additional season. Al Nassr is hoping to lift their first silverware with the Portuguese superstar. The past two seasons haven’t worked out as per expectations, with the team failing to get their hands on a single title.
