One player who stood out and won the Best Young Player Award for his performance in the tournament was 22-year-old Enzo Fernandez. His admirable performance, courtesy of delivering some electrifying performances, caught the attention of his soon-to-be Chelsea teammate Marc Cucurella.
Marc Cucurella didn’t know who Enzo Fernandez was
Marc Cucurella is a left-back at Chelsea and has a transfer value of around $43.6 million. The Spaniard apparently had to Google Enzo Fernandez to find out who he was as he was extremely impressed by the Argentine’s performance.
“I was watching Argentina in the World Cup, and I think I said, ‘I really like 24(Enzo Fernandez’s shirt number), he’s very good,'” Cucurella shared. “And I didn’t even know where he played, I had to go look it up on my cell phone”.

Interestingly, just a month after the World Cup, in late January, Chelsea struck gold as they signed Fernadez. They did so in a record-breaking deal worth $132 million, breaking the British transfer record. This speaks volumes about the potential that Enzo Fernandez has. While Enzo Fernandez is settling right in with the Blues, his teammate Lionel Messi’s future is still uncertain.
