It’s nearly been four days since Lionel Messi was unveiled as the latest Inter Miami player and fans still can’t wrap their head around it. David Beckham was one of the earliest superstars to join the MLS and spark such mass excitement amongst American soccer fans. 16 years after Beckham’s debut, Lionel Messi becomes the first superstar to overshadow Beckham’s debut. Talking to BBC Sport about Messi’s signing, DB7’s vision behind it was clear.

The reason cited by Becks was that the former Barcelona will take some time to adapt to the league. While it is a fact that Messi is fresh off winning the World Cup and Ligue 1, DB7 still believes he will need some space to understand the tactics and get fit. “He looks sharp, he looks great, but he’s going to need time to adapt as well,” explained the former Real Madrid star.

Becks subsequently intimated that Messi might not play the entire game against Cruz Azul. “Leo will play some part of the game, but that will be down to the coach, and it’ll be down to Leo to decide if he’s ready because we know that he’s been away for a few weeks with his family,” shared Beckham.
