The 2023 NWSL season had viewers on the tip of their seats as it was no less than a suspenseful film. Gotham FC was victorious in a nail-biting match, defeating Megan Rapinoe‘s OL Reign 2-1 to secure the title. Months after this historic win, USWNT legend Ali Krieger has finally opened up on the exhilarating moment, describing it as nothing short of a ‘dream come true‘.

The retired defender recently sat down for an interview on CBS Sports Golazo’s segment, ‘Morning Footy.’ There, Ali Krieger candidly expressed her happiness over the victory and gave insights on a behind-the-scenes celebration after the exciting conclusion of the NWSL season. She said, “It was incredible because the locker room is what helped us win. We were all so supportive of each other and valued each other, respected each other and I think ultimately in the end we could celebrate.”

“It was so rewarding and I will remember it forever because it was obviously my last and I ended up on top. So that was a dream come true.” These words surely justify what winning the match meant for Ali Krieger and her teammates. While Ali Krieger was able to get a proper and joyous farewell, the unlucky one was Megan Rapinoe.

Not only did she taste defeat in her career’s final-ever match, but she also couldn’t enjoy the full game after being subbed off in just 6 minutes because of an injury. Despite facing off against her fellow national teammate, their friendship remains as good as a freshly baked cake.

Ali Krieger and Megan Rapinoe are ‘really connected’

Earlier, Ali Krieger opened up about her remarkable bond with Megan Rapinoe. She said, “I was just this girl from coming in from Germany and I think we just really connected. I don’t know, our personalities and the things we spoke about and I guess our humor and that was very enjoyable to me.”

She also revealed that it was the ‘really deep conversations‘ that both used to enjoy off the soccer field, which ‘attracted‘ the former Frankfurt star to Rapinoe the most. Notably, both of them have together secured Women’s World Cup titles in both 2015 and 2019. It’s indeed quite sad that the soccer world cannot witness these stars anymore.
