The Uruguayan is under criticism after his big-money move from Benfica for not scoring goals. He has so far scored six goals in the Premier League and ten overall in all competitions. Recently, he compared himself with his Uruguay teammate Luis Suarez, who also struggled to score at the Merseyside club in his first season.
What has Darwin Nunez said about the former Barcelona striker?
“I think the same thing is happening to me as happened to Suarez. In his second year, he tore it up. Something similar happened to me already at Benfica. The first year went very badly for me, and in the second, I exploded,” Nunez said recently on his goal-scoring woes at Liverpool this season.
In his first season at Benfica, the striker scored only six goals in the league. However, he was on top last season, scoring 26 goals in the league and six in the UEFA Champions League. His goal-scoring exploits caught the eyes of many European giants, and Liverpool bought the player in a big-money move last summer.
