Pep Guardiola is arguably the greatest manager to feature in the Premier League. While a section of fans would quickly jump in and chime with Sir Alex Ferguson and his longevity, Guardiola’s run with Manchester City is no ordinary feat. The ex-Bayern Munich box following his move to England has won 6 Premier League titles during his 8 seasons with the club. Six!! However, his accolades have been marred by the FFP allegations against the club, with rival fans suggesting the manager’s success is built on deceit.

However, despite the recent comments against the manager and his players, former Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher believes the 115 charges against Manchester City do not affect Pep Guardiola’s legacy as a manager. Carragher’s appearance on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast ranked the Spaniard as the greatest manager in Premier League history.

Carragher stated, “The 115 charges are against the club, Pep Guardiola as a manager. The job he’s done has been phenomenal. It’s like these Arsenal fans are getting more involved in these 115 charges saying it cost them the league. But in terms of Pep, he has spent the same as Manchester United in the 7 years he has been there or Chelsea. The charges I totally agree, but I don’t think it affects Pep in terms of judging him as a manager.”

The charges against Manchester City are pretty severe, with the club facing relegation from the Premier League, if proven guilty in the FFP scandal. However, the Sky Blues feel confident coming out unscathed with top brass at the Etihad assuring Pep Guardiola about their innocence earlier this week.

The Cityzens have found themselves in a harsh situation, with Premier League authorities set to hold the club under trial for their 115 FFP breaches this October. City allegedly broke 115 rules between 2009 to 2018, with most of them including the team inflating their balance book to show profits. The club has also been accused of failing to cooperate with the investigators, raising questions over their stance. However, while public scrutiny might be against the side, the upper management at the club believes the team has nothing to worry about.

According to reports, Khaldoon Al-Mubarak and other board members have assured Pep Guardiola that Manchester City will be cleared when Premier League FFP charges are brought out later this year. The news comes just days after Pep Guardiola’s comments with the manager claiming he was growing tired.

Manchester City would hate to see the Spaniard walk away, and it seems like the club is trying everything in their hand to keep hold of the manager for the seasons to come.
