Liverpool Injury Update: 6 Players Out As Dominik Szoboszlai & Andy Robertson’s Return in Doubt

Liverpool is facing a significant setback as they approach the 3rd round of the FA Cup. The team finds itself plagued with injuries, which may impact their performance against Arsenal. Currently, Jurgen Klopp is dealing with the absence of six key players who are unable to participate in the upcoming match due to injuries.

The first player on the injury list is Joel Matip, who suffered a possible season-ending knee injury. The center-back is still recovering from a cruciate ligament surgery and is not expected to make his return until September. 19-year-old Stefan Bajcetic Maquieira is also battling the effects of an adductor injury sustained last March.

Although he is eager to return to training, he will likely be back on the field in the first week of February. Andy Robertson is expected to make his return around the same time as well.  The Scottish has been sidelined since October due to a shoulder dislocation.

The only player slated for a return this month is Thiago Alcantara. Alcantara has been out since spring 2023 due to a hip injury and should be back in action on January 21st. Liverpool’s most recent injury concern lies with Dominik Szoboszlai, who suffered a thigh injury during their match against Newcastle.

At present, there is no information regarding his return date. Similar is the case for Konstantinos Tsimikas who suffered a shoulder injury last month against Arsenal. All these injuries are surely a cause of concern for Jurgen Klopp who soon also will have to cope without Mohamed Salah due to his duties in the AFCON. Speaking about Dominik Szoboszlai’s injury, the Liverpool boss stated, “Dom is very positive, [and] doesn’t have a lot of pain but we have to wait a little bit.”

Talking about his expected return Klopp added, “So, no chance obviously for Sunday, not for Wednesday. No. And then we will see, after that hopefully, he might be back but we don’t know.” In another setback, Andy Robertson’s recovery progress has been slow.

The German manager emphasized that “Robbo still needs more range in his shoulder. [He is] still not even close to team training.” With all this, one thing is sure, Liverpool faces a challenging FA matchup against Arsenal with several key absences affecting their lineup.
