Two of the most talented players in the history of soccer go head-to-head in an epic clash of the Titans. The dominators of yesteryear, where rivalry is older than the oldest, Uruguay, are about to take on Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifier. But all the focus will be on two allies, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, who will lock horns against each other to leave no mercy on Wednesday.

Most probably, Uruguay and Argentina will see their stars move on in a couple of years, but what they’ve achieved will remain forever. The former Barcelona players became their respective national team’s go-to players for magical moments! But who among them won more trophies and titles?

As we head to another international break, CONMEBOL teams will have one last battle before they head to Copa America next year. The stars have contributed immensely to the team they played on and have always been crucial to their team doing well.

To start with club competitions, Lionel Messi has 28 trophies, including 10 La Liga titles with FC Barcelona, the highest for any player. On the other hand, Suarez has 17 titles and won the league title with various teams like FC Barcelona with Messi, Ajax, Nacional in Uruguay, and Atletico Madrid, to name a few.

Messi also has more trophies, like the Copa del Rey (7) and the French Super Cup (2022), compared to Suarez, who won four Copa del Rey, one Dutch Cup, and two Spanish Super Cups. However, Suarez has a trophy in England where the Argentine captain misses out. The duo played for the same club and scored 99 goals together at FC Barcelona. But the battle for international trophies was always fierce between the two.

Lionel Messi had to struggle with a lot of criticism for not winning a major international trophy until Copa America in 2021. On the other hand, Suarez had success early in his career, winning the Copa America title in 2011 and even winning the Player of the Tournament in the same edition. Even though Messi won the 2008 Olympic gold, fans were asking for a dedicated FIFA international trophy.

But the Argentinian captain’s cabinet steadily filled his top shelf with memorable occasions. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has two extra trophies, including the prestigious World Cup and the 2022 Finalissima. Suarez won the Copa America in 2011.

However, it will be hard to compare Lionel Messi with anyone except Brazilian Dani Alves. Both players won 44 trophies each, making them the most decorated players ever.
