The veteran confirmed the same by saying, ” The match against France in the final was my best match with Argentina”. Messi already suffered a heartbreaking loss in the 2014 finals. This was his chance to set things straight and he took the match by the scruff of the neck. Despite his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe’s efforts, the soccer icon managed to walk away with the FIFA World Cup. The only trophy which was missing from his cabinet.

Many expected Messi to retire from international soccer. However, he seems to have other plans. The soccer icon recently discussed his plans to stick around till this next World Cup. He said, “The 2026 World Cup? Considering the age I will be at that time, it seems difficult — but we’ll see”.While he was honest about the physical challenge on the body, could Messi be hinting at his participation in the next World Cup?

Will Lionel Messi make an unprecedented 6th World Cup?

No player till now has participated in 6 world cups. However, judging by Messi’s comments, it looks very likely that he will be around in 2026 defending the Argentine glory with all his heart. Messi has already played the most World Cup Matches (26) surpassing Lothar Matthaus, a German soccer legend. His game intelligence and calm approach on the field mean he can still be influential despite losing some physical traits.

Former teammate Andres D’Alessandro had once predicted that Messi would be able to play till he was 40.
