August is about to be slipped away into a moment in time, and there’s still no sign of Lionel Messi. The Argentinian superstar hasn’t seen action for months as the skipper remains sidelined because of an ankle injury he sustained during the Copa America final. However, there’s finally the much-anticipated news on Messi’s return date, after news broke that La Pulga is set to miss the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
In his absence, the atmosphere has been rather bittersweet. Each presser witnessed weird silences from Tata Martino when questioned over the return date of the 37-year-old. However, Argentinian journalist Hernán Claus has an answer for the fans. As compiled by @AlbicelesteTalk on X, Messi keeps his focus on rehab. The striker is working on strengthening his ankle and progressing cautiously. Even though the Barcelona icon has not yet joined group training, he is expected to reunite with his teammates swiftly.
Claus then mentioned the day fans may see him in action, “There’s hope he might play some minutes against Chicago Fire on August 31, but the key target is the September 14 match against Philadelphia Union.” The journalist added, “Inter Miami is patient, aiming to have him fully fit for the playoffs starting in late October, with the goal of winning the MLS.”

Finally, a tentative date that everyone had been hoping to hear for so long. Inter Miami will first need to play another match without Messi on August 24 against Cincinnati, then they shall expect the 8x Ballon d’Or winner at their disposal. Yet, it’s most likely that the David Beckham-owned club will aim to unleash their star player with caution.
In the meantime, Messi has plenty of time to rest and recover. After all, he will also be responsible for fulfilling Inter Miami’s title hopes and making them a reality.

Lionel Messi is the much-needed boost that Inter Miami requires!
In the absence of the former PSG superstar, Tata Martino’s side did perform more than impressively. Inter Miami won a majority of their MLS games, taking the top spot of the Eastern Conference with a tally of 53. They are even 5 points clear of arch-rivals Cincinnati. Their lead might shrink soon, especially since the next opponent is the second-placed team.
Miami lost 6-1 to Cincinnati, not to mention they also carry the baggage of their recent Leagues Cup blunder. The reigning champions were knocked out of the race to defend their title for the second consecutive, losing 2-3 to Columbus Crew. Hence, nothing more would be a significant confidence booster for Inter Miami to see their skipper return to action.

Having Lionel Messi significantly boosts the Florida side’s chances of winning the MLS shield. Not to remind them that this is all they have in the name of silverware. Therefore, the race to fitness remains a challenge for Lionel Messi, who looks to support his domestic team in winning titles.
