Inter Miami managed to extend their winning streak against the New England Revolution. A 1-4 win at Gillette Stadium, spearheaded by none other than Lionel Messi, helped the Herons keep up with their title charge. While the Miami faithful resound with the emphatic triumph, La Pulga dropped a 6-word confession regarding his side’s performance.
Just minutes after the match, the Argentinian superstar took to Instagram and posted a picture of himself in action. Additionally, he wrote a caption saying, “Otra victoria más para seguir sumando!” As translated, it says, “Another win to keep adding up!” Clearly, the skipper is happy with his side clinching the crucial three points. Notably, Miami kept the wrong foot at the start of the match as the Revolution took the lead within 60 seconds, courtesy of a strike from Thomas Chancalay.

However, the half-hour mark saw Messi break his side’s deadlock to score an equalizer. A second was added after an hour mark to give Martino and Co. a lead. Additionally, Benjamin Cresmaschi was rewarded for replacing Julian Gressel in the midfield as he added the third. Meanwhile, Luis Suarez, who surprisingly came from the bench, iced the cake with a simple finish in the final minutes. With this win, Tata Martino and Co. remain at the top of the Eastern Conference table with 21 points. On the other hand, the Revolution was unlucky, as further misery unfolded for them before the match.

Alihjaz Ivacic, Earl Edwards Jr., Esmir Bajraktarevic, and Dave Romney were all absent from the clash due to alleged food poisoning. Additionally, the absence of these star players also led Messi to eventually become the king of Gillette Stadium.
Lionel Messi again pulls a record crowd to make them chant their own name!
Over 65,612 spectators filled Gillette Stadium, marking another record-breaking crowd in MLS history. New England had already set a single-season attendance record in 2023, averaging 23,940 fans per game. Messi’s presence helped surpass previous attendance records, including the MLS Cup clash between the Revolution and LA Galaxy on Oct. 20, 2002, and the April 20, 1997, NFL game between the Patriots and Tampa Bay, which drew 61,316 and 57,407 spectators, respectively.

Moreover, tickets to witness Messi’s performance today were costlier than those for a Patriots game, priced at $285. Interestingly, Messi also captivated the New England Revolution’s fanbase. Despite their team lagging behind Miami, home supporters chanted the No. 10’s name, showing unexpected enthusiasm and making La Pulga feel welcomed. Indeed, if the inspiration from Lionel Messi continues in this manner, then there will be no stopping him or Inter Miami from breaking more records.
