Messi completed a stunning move to the American club, joining them on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. About the impact Messi has made since his arrival, Inter Miami executive Xavier Asensi has hailed the seven-time Ballon D’or winner, considering his immense popularity.
In an interview with MARCA, Asensi hinted at a long-term deal for the Argentine. When asked, “Do you see Leo until 2025, as you have signed, or will you see each other year by year?” He said, “The idea is 2023, 2024, and 2025… or more. Hopefully beyond that. An incredible thing happens here: one player, Leo, is bigger than a whole club or a whole league. A new stadium is coming; the 2026 World Cup is coming; then the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles…. A lot of things will happen here.”
Xavier Asensi spent 11 years as an executive at Barcelona until he joined Inter Miami in 2021. He has re-joined forces there with Lionel Messi, who signed for the MLS side earlier this summer.
Messi has been in red-hot form since joining Inter Miami, scoring 11 goals in his first nine appearances. With La Pulga, Inter Miami hasn’t lost a match. However, Miami is set to be without their star man for the next couple of weeks.
