In soccer, the plot thickens faster than the hair gel. And Lionel Messi can be a significant example of it. Be it the 2021 summer when he had to leave FC Barcelona or his two years with PSG. Moreover, his transfer drama would have twisted more had he not decided his future quickly.
The Argentine decided to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami. His decision surprised many, as Miami wasn’t anywhere to be seen. But Beckham worked on the transfer for years, as recently revealed by Jorge Mas. And Beckham surprised fans with his funny side recently.

Inter Miami took center stage out of nowhere. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner chose the Miami-based club as his next decision after his PSG contract ended. The MLS club is now the fifth most followed American team on Instagram, with over 8.5 million followers. Messi’s announcement made an incredible impact.
However, a man crucial behind the signing went public for the first time after the announcement. Beckham participated in a 90-minute question-and-answer round with fans recently. Meanwhile, one fan stunned him with a surprising question. The fan wanted to know why Beckham didn’t sign Messi for his other club. Apart from Inter Miami, Beckham also co-owns EFL League Two club Salford City with his former United teammates.
But Beckham surprised many with a hilarious reply. “Yes, I am part-owner of Salford City,” began Beckham. “And Salford is a great place. But, obviously, Argentina is closer to Miami than Salford. I think that was quite a pull for Leo…” Obviously, Lionel Messi opting for Salford over all the massive offers he had, seems unlikely. And Beckham handled it with a light-hearted sarcastic answer.
The famous United Class of 92 owns Salford City. It plies its trade in the fourth division of the English soccer pyramid. Next season, another celebrity-owned club, Wrexham AFC, will join Salford City. It wasn’t meant to be Lionel Messi vs Ryan Reynolds next season, though. Now all eyes are on Messi’s debut for Inter Miami, with the co-owner teasing something special before July 15.
Can we see Lionel Messi joined by his former teammates?
The MLS club already roped in one of Messi’s former teammates, Sergio Busquets. However, it seems Inter Miami wants more. Recently, Jorge Mas teased the fans with a cryptic post naming Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez on the club’s transfer list. Moreover, he set a timeline of July 15 for more crucial signings.
